QTS Launches QuikSecure? Assisted Security Management Service

(South Orange, NJ) January 6, 2003 – QTS today launched its new QuikSecure? Assisted Security Management service offering, providing customers with a cost-effective means to outsource network security monitoring and management.  According to Neil Rosenberg, President and CEO of QTS, "our QuikSecure Assisted Security Management service makes a lot of sense for customers who don't have the time or security knowledge to monitor their network on a daily basis for security events.  Since it's so similar to our QuikAlert? service, it makes a ton of sense as an additive service for those customers that already have QuikAlert."

Under QuikSecure? Assisted Security Management ("ASM"), QTS performs a daily review of the customer's firewall and/or web server(s) to determine if any security incidents have occurred, as well as to check system health and performance.  QTS then faxes a daily report to the customer to advise them of any issues, and calls over if any significant events have been detected.  QTS currently offers the service for Cisco PIX and Check Point FireWall-1 firewalls, with other platforms to be added in the future if sufficient customer interest is noted. 

According to Rosenberg, security is just as important for mid-sized businesses as it is for large corporations.  "It's all a function of what the value of your systems are to your business," noted Rosenberg.  "If your data isn't valuable, and you don't rely on your systems for day to day operations, then you don't need to pay much attention to Information Security.  On the other hand, we've seen small businesses that are not particularly prominent or visible be attacked - not because of who they are, but because they were connected to the Internet and were easy to attack and exploit.  So, what's the impact of downtime and/or data loss to your business?"

Rosenberg also noted that "security management is a huge issue that is often overlooked by smaller and mid-sized businesses.  People assume they're OK if they have a firewall and antivirus protection, but the reality is that a firewall is of limited value if it is not being monitored and maintained.  Would you assume you're safe if you locked a door and put a videocamera near it, but never checked the tapes or looked at the door?  Our ASM service helps customers implement security management, at a cost-effective price point, without having to make a huge up-front investment in personnel or resources."

QuikSecure Lifecycle Services

QTS' QuikSecure security life cycle methodology is specifically designed to take a business through the various stages of implementing and managing a network security system.  The components of QuikSecure include:

  • QuikSecure Security Policy Development: Using QTS-standardized templates as a starting point, QTS works with the customer to develop an organizational Security Policy to define acceptable use and protect the organization legally and at a business level.  This is the heart of where all of the system's security configurations should come.
  • QuikSecure Architecture Service: QTS works with the customer to design a security architecture based on current and future business needs and technology.
  • QuikSecure Integration Services: Based on the Security Policy and Security Architecture, QTS implements a network security solution using components from industry-leading manufacturer partners, and provides training so the customer can manage the system on an ongoing basis.
  • QuikSecure Assisted Security Management Services: From its Customer Support Center, QTS provides remote monitoring and management services for the customer's Firewall/VPN, Intrusion Detection System, Web Servers and other security components.  This includes reviewing system logs for signs of breach, and verifying proper functionality.  Although this can be done by the customer, this offering is often more cost effective based on centralized expertise and efficiency at QTS.
  • QuikSecure Security Evaluation Services: QTS conducts a comprehensive, high-level Security Assessment of the customer's systems, processes and procedures, which can be followed by a Vulnerability Assessment using standardized scanning tools, and then into a Penetration & Attack Test (PAT) to attempt to actually break into the network.
  • QuikSecure Microsoft Platform Review Services: QTS conducts a one week structured program to review security on the customer's Windows, Exchange and SQL Servers, and transfers knowledge regarding security best practices and optimal configurations.

For customers with established security systems, QTS can start with a Security Assessment and Vulnerability Assessment, then work back through the other stages to refine the system.  "Customers can be at different stages, but managing security is an ongoing process" noted Rosenberg.
