(South Orange, NJ) January 29, 1999 This week, at Legal Tech New York, Quality Technology Solutions President Neil Rosenberg presented the "10 Steps to Worry-Free Networking." A room full of attorneys and law firm administrators learned about some key principles that ranged from the purchasing of equipment to managing network upgrades and software conversions. Within the presentation, Mr. Rosenberg shared specific details and guidelines that could be easily followed. His tips come from many years of implementing networks in law firm environments. Mr. Rosenberg noted that "sometimes the slightest difference in approaching a problem can results in significant savings in time, cost and aggravation." Law firms have become increasingly dependent on technology and are particularly sensitive to network downtime. Of the steps covered in the presentation, the audience showed strong interest in "Separating server conversions from workstation changes" and "Using temp staffs and floor support to boost training value." Mr. Rosenberg described how firms tend to make their investment in technology upgrades all at once, including the hardware and software for both servers and desktop PCs. During the implementation of a broad upgrade, simultaneous upgrades make it difficult to isolate problems. By upgrading the server environment first, the network can be stabilized before upgrading workstations. Making the time to train law firm staff on new software is a crucial part of a successful upgrade in order to maintain and eventually increase productivity. To further boost this training value, Mr. Rosenberg represents two simple steps. First, hire temporary administrative staff to fill in while the firms staff is attending training class. This prevents a backlog of work that would need to get done in a new and unfamiliar technical environment. Second, on the day the staff returns to the office, have the training instructor present at the law firm for "floor support", helping the staff as they begin to use the upgraded software applications. This keeps the staff productive and reinforces lessons learned in the classroom training. QTS provided each attendee at the Legal Tech presentation with a written document outlining the details of the 10 steps. An additional 5 bonus steps were included in the presentation and handout package. For a limited time following this event, QTS will provide a free copy, upon request, to law firm personnel that could not attend the event. The presentation will then be posted on the company website at http://www.qtsnet.com/10steps.pdf. QTS was founded in 1992 by Neil Rosenberg, its President and CEO.
