QTS Announces QuikSecure? Security Policy Development Service

(South Orange, NJ) May 28, 2002 – QTS today announced its new QuikSecure? Security Policy Development service offering, providing customers with a customized Security Policy document through an interactive one day consulting engagement.  According to Neil Rosenberg, President and CEO of QTS, "our QuikSecure Security Policy Development service allows businesses to jumpstart right to a working security policy, with a one day commitment of time and resources.  Our approach is specifically tailored to the needs of medium enterprise businesses - companies with between 50 and 1000 PC users.  These companies usually have strong technology foundations, but need help with properly managing growth and securing that infrastructure."

Using QTS-standardized templates as a starting point, QTS begins the one day engagement with education on what goes into a security policy, and reviews any building blocks the customer may have while learning their environment and their goals.  QTS then customizes the template interactively with the customer, stepping them through the pros and cons of the decisions they need to make.  The end result is a thorough document that meets their needs, and solid education on how to be successful in implementing, communicating and managing the document.  "This is high-level content, with important business decisions that need to be made, so it's critical that proper upper management decision makers are involved in the process for the full day.  If there is no buy-in and commitment, this won't work, but if there is, it will save months of time and effort," noted Rosenberg, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional.

Security Policies are increasingly critical to businesses.  In addition to providing employees with guidance on acceptable behavior and conduct in use of computer systems, Security Policies limit legal liability by pre-defining company policy on acceptable conduct.  Management can then confidently discipline employees for misconduct, with the security policy providing a defense against employee lawsuits and a justification for actions taken.  Security Policies also play a critical role in defining what security technologies a business needs to achieve its security objectives.

"Many businesses simply don't know where to begin" said Rosenberg.  "Creating something like this would take hundreds of hours of time to build from scratch, even using existing templates and books.  So much of what's out there just doesn't apply to medium businesses whose needs are more complex than small businesses, but less in depth than enterprises.  We're confident we've hit the mark with this."

QuikSecure Lifecycle Services

QTS' QuikSecure security life cycle methodology is specifically designed to take a business through the various stages of implementing and managing a network security system.  The other components, which complement QuikSecure Security Policy Development, include:

  • QuikSecure Architecture Service: QTS works with the customer to design a security architecture based on current and future business needs and technology.
  • QuikSecure Integration Services: Based on the Security Policy and Security Architecture, QTS implements a network security solution using components from industry-leading manufacturer partners, and provides training so the customer can manage the system on an ongoing basis.
  • QuikSecure Assisted Security Management Services: From its Customer Support Center, QTS provides remote monitoring and management services for the customer's Firewall/VPN, Intrusion Detection System, Web Servers and other security components.  This includes reviewing system logs for signs of breach, and verifying proper functionality.  Although this can be done by the customer, this offering is often more cost effective based on centralized expertise and efficiency at QTS.
  • QuikSecure Security Audit Services: QTS conducts a security audit of the customer's system, which can be extended into a Vulnerability Assessment using standardized scanning tools, and then into a Penetration & Attack Test (PAT) to assess the ability to break into the network.

For customers with established security systems, QTS can start with a Security Audit and Vulnerability Assessment, then work back through the other stages to refine the system.  "Customers can be at different stages, but managing security is an ongoing process" noted Rosenberg.
