Security Solutions: Directory Services, LDAP and Single Sign-On

Microsoft Active Directory is the leading Directory Service offerings, allowing organizations to set up a single point for authentication to access network resources and manage identity.  Often, however, many organizations still have several, or dozens of, additional systems with unique login IDs and passwords, and no means of integrating them.

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol ("LDAP") provides a means for systems to read information from, or pass information to, a directory service so the systems' administration and authentication can be linked.  For example, Check Point Software's Account Management Module allows LDAP access to Novell eDirectory or Active Directory to populate the Check Point policy database with user and group objects from the directory.

Single Sign-On products like Citrix Password Manager take a different approach, by storing IDs and passwords in the directory and passing them to the other applications when access is required.  The information is encrypted to prevent unauthorized access, and the result is a user-transparent solution for managing authentication to multiple systems with one identity.

Single Sign-On can also work in a web context, allowing login to a web site to then provide credentials to other systems within a heterogenous network.

QTS can implement a solution for you, or we can conduct a security review of your network and implement a comprehensive security plan, to protect your network and your Internet connection.  Call us to discuss how we can help secure your network, and make it Worry-Free!
