Security Services: Security Assessment

A Security Assessment is the first stage in tightening the security of your network.  This process consists of a QTS security engineer performing a thorough review of your network, from a security perspective.  We will collect specific configuration information about your firewall, VPN, servers, modem connections and directory service, along with any other areas we identify (partner connections, etc.).  We will then prepare a report with specific recommendations.

This includes review of basic business procedures and physical security, since 80% of all security breaches come from inside customers' networks.  The Security Assessment can also include review of your Security Policy, or if you do not have one we can assist you with development of a Security Policy as a separate engagement.  The goal of this process is to define high-level vulnerabilities, including architectural ones, and correct them before drilling down to tactical details of perimeter device configuration nuances, which is performed in the second stage of our process.

If you are a new customer to QTS, this will typically be done after a Network Audit, so we develop a solid baseline understanding of your network and can drill down into security-specific detail in the security audit.

After the Security Assessment is performed and appropriate security concerns are addressed, you can move to the second stage, Vulnerability Assessment.  To do this, QTS uses scanning tools to identify open ports on your firewall, vulnerabilities in host operating systems, unnecessary access rights, and other areas where your network may have unnecessary exposure.  Then you can move to the third stage - Penetration & Attack Testing, where a controlled attempt to break into the network is conducted.  Specific vulnerabilities are identified and exploited, with an attempt to take control of whatever network resources are available.

QTS can help you plan, build and manage a comprehensive security solution for your business.  We utilize best of class products, and our staff's skill and experience is strong.  Call us to discuss how we can help secure your network, and make it Worry-Free!
